2018 Mentor Program Proves to be Powerful

The Power of a Persistent, Positive Presence

Our incentive based year-round middle school mentor program in partnership with Moravian College Athletics reached new heights in 2017-2018 as thirty-three (33) out of (47) middle school football players from Allentown and Bethlehem Area School Districts enrolled in the program upheld Five Star Heart’s high academic, character, and athletic standards. In addition to being inspired at monthly mentor sessions held at Moravian College and visits from their collegiate role models at their respective schools, participating student-athletes were challenged to define their goals and map out their path to success as they were required to read and reflect on Jon Gordon’s motivational book Training Camp. From student-athletes volunteering their time at multiple days-of-caring at the Boys and Girls Club of Bethlehem, to competing in a grueling fitness challenge which raised $1,300 for Five Star Heart’s mission to participating in a social media challenge in which our kids took pride in posting good grades on social media outlets such as Instagram® and Twitter®, this is what makes our programming SPECIAL.  Aside from being granted with an inspirational visit from New York Giant Saquon Barkley and trips to Under Armour Head Quarters, Army West Point, the United States Naval Academy, the University of Notre Dame, and the Temple versus Navy football contest in Philadelphia, they were awarded with Five Star Heart Under Armour apparel and a trip of a lifetime to Dabo Swinney’s Clemson University Football Camp in June of 2018. Five Star Heart student-athletes learn to pride themselves on EARNING EVERYTHING.

Five Star Heart's Gift To The Community - The transformation of the Boys & Girls Club of Bethlehem

Over the few year's while conducting Five Star Heart days-of-caring at the Boys and Girls Club of Bethlehem, Bobby McClarin was quick to notice that the club could use a facelift.  He was made aware of the R.K. Laros Foundation grant and he could not let this opportunity to GIVE BACK pass by.  Within weeks, Bobby collected letters of support from Five Star Heart's partners The Boys and Girls Club of Bethlehem, Moravian College, Bethlehem Area School District and St.  Luke's University Health Network to pursue this grant earmarked to renovate the basketball court.  The rest is history.  The restoration has begun which serves as the first step in bringing all walks-of-life back into the club that bobby once remembered as Five Star Heart has begun to take its initiative beyond the game of football.  Five Star Heart was presented with a check in the amount of $20K on Martin Luther King Day.  After the check presentation, Five Star Heart student-athletes and Bobby proceeded to clean the floors, wipe the walls and scrub the toilets 5-Star Heart Style.  If you are interesting in learning more about this project and ways to support, contact bobby at (610) 417-8361.  Thank You R.K. Laros Foundation  www.larosfoundation.org St Luke's University Health Network, Iron Hill Construction Management, and Sobrinski Painting for seizing this opportunity alongside Five Star Heart.  #allinthistogether
